UCC BLACK 「黒の余韻」 Kuro no yo-in is a new vocabulary word for me. Literally UCC BLACK Dark Aftertaste. 余韻 yo-in describes the finish of a drink or musical chord. Though poetic in its typical use, the employment of the phrase kuro no yo-in to describe this canned coffee in particular is far less subtle than normal. Even in English underneath the Japanese description it says 「FULL BODIED BITTERNESS」. And that description is damn accurate.

This UCC twist-top is bitter and unforgiving. With no added sugar or salt, UCC makes no attempt to mask its taste. Dark, deep and beautifully minimal. It's literally just coffee in an aluminum can. It tastes as bitter as a cigarette butt. That's all to say: this coffee is awesome. Canned with a resealable cap if you're not drinking it all in one go, it is able to be served hot or chilled.
